Choose a yacht by eliminating unsuitable options first, then comparing the features that matter to your group. This is more useful than assuming the longest vessel, highest price or word luxury guarantees the right experience.
This guide applies that method to H2OH’s private crewed charters in the Riviera Maya. All depart from Puerto Aventuras Marina; they are not a single product covering Mexico’s different coastlines.
First, identify the non-negotiable requirements
Write down the full passenger count, date, main activity, boarding needs and maximum total budget. Count children and infants toward capacity. Ask about any essential access or meal requirement before paying.
A capacity limit is a first filter, not a seating plan or an availability result. For example, 30 passengers exceed a yacht listed for 28, regardless of whether some are children. A smaller group can still book a larger yacht privately; the whole-charter price and included guest allowance still matter.
Next, choose the route that provides your main activity
Compare a four-hour InHa reef charter when snorkeling is central to the plan. Compare the three-hour Xpu-Ha outing for coastal swimming and celebration. The two-hour evening choices have a different purpose and departure plan.
Do not choose a shorter charter and assume every longer-route stop remains included. The stated duration covers the complete boat outing. For a different or longer plan, request feasibility and a quote rather than adding destinations yourself.
Compare two or three named yachts
Use the current H2OH fleet listings and build a simple comparison. Keep the date, route and headcount the same for each option.

For each feature, mark it essential, preferred or unnecessary. A yacht missing an essential requirement needs clarification or removal from the shortlist. There is little value in paying for a feature your group will not use while overlooking shade or access that matters to someone coming.
Distinguish the vessel from the food and drink package
H2OH charters include captain and crew. Regular all-inclusive options include meals and a standard open bar. The Family option includes meals and non-alcoholic drinks without the open bar. Custom Series keeps captain and crew while food and bar selections are separate.
Custom Series does not mean you operate the yacht yourself. A private chef, upgraded bar, professional photographer or particular water toy should appear in the accepted arrangement when it matters to your decision.
Include the time and cost outside the boat
Add both road journeys and the marina arrival allowance to the charter duration. Review transportation from your accommodation. A four-hour charter is not a four-hour door-to-door outing.
Compare full totals rather than general hourly rates. Neither a weekday nor booking early automatically creates a discount or calm sea conditions. Confirm any offer against the actual product and check the displayed reduction rather than budgeting for an assumed saving.
Use the shortlist to make a decision
Build an itemized estimate for the leading option. Ask the team to resolve the remaining essential questions, then confirm availability, the named yacht and the booking terms. Keep the chosen layout, route and package together in the confirmation. An estimate or capacity match alone does not reserve the boat.
