The right Riviera Maya day trip depends on your starting address, available time and main interest. Tulum archaeology, a Cozumel visit, a guided underground experience and a private yacht charter use different transport and booking arrangements. Choose one main outing rather than treating the region as a single tour where every attraction is a nearby stop.

Tulum: separate archaeology from beach facilities
Start with INAH’s Tulum visitor information and the current access arrangements for your visit. If the plan also involves Parque del Jaguar, a museum or a beach venue, establish what each ticket or purchase covers. Do not assume archaeological admission includes all nearby facilities.
Give the group enough time to walk, take breaks and meet the return transport. Check access before planning to swim below the ruins. A view of the coast from the site is not a promise of an open beach entrance.
Cozumel: plan from the return ferry backward
Ultramar publishes the Playa del Carmen–Cozumel route separately from its Isla Mujeres routes. Identify the carrier, terminal and departures for your date. Add boarding and island transport rather than describing the crossing time as the full excursion.
Choose one main island activity. For a managed park visit, review Chankanaab’s own information. For archaeology, consult INAH’s San Gervasio page. A ferry ticket does not include either admission, and the two attractions need different travel arrangements.
For a boat tour, make sure the guide meets you on the correct side of the crossing. Leave margin before the return sailing and do not attach a tight airport connection to a plan that depends on several separate providers.
Cobá: an inland alternative with its own pace
Cobá is a separate archaeological destination, not part of a standard Tulum admission. Check the site’s current visiting details and choose transport that gives the group time to explore. Ask about guiding and any on-site services before including them in your budget.
Do not promise a particular climbing opportunity or an empty site from an old photograph. Let the actual access arrangements determine the day rather than building it around activities that may not be available.
Cenote or underground activity: compare the exact experience
Río Secreto offers guided walking and swimming through an underground route, with equipment listed for the selected tour. Parque Dos Ojos has its own admissions and designated activities. They are examples of different products, not interchangeable tickets to the same water system.
Ask about water entry, assistance needs, changing facilities and participation requirements. Keep specialist diving separate from a casual swim. Confirm return transport and allow time to change before another booking.
A private H2OH yacht day: one crewed coastal booking
All H2OH private charters depart from Puerto Aventuras Marina. Compare three-hour Xpu-Ha, four-hour InHa reef and two-hour evening choices according to the experience you want. They do not include ferry service to Cozumel, inland cenotes or archaeological admission.
Count all passengers and compare maximum capacity with the guest allowance included in the fare. Review food and drink inclusions for the selected package, and price transport, marina fees and extras separately. Conditions determine suitable water activities; private use of a yacht is not exclusive use of a reef.
Make the final comparison useful
Ask each provider for the total time away, complete cost, cancellation terms and actual meeting point. Pick the outing your group most wants, then add a flexible meal or walk. That is often easier to coordinate than several activities with tightly connected arrival times.
For H2OH, prepare an estimate and confirm your marina transfer. Arrive 20 minutes before the booked departure. An estimate is a planning document, not a yacht reservation or a combined ticket for the region’s day trips.
