Choosing where to snorkel during an Akumal stay starts with the kind of outing you want. Akumal Bay is a local beach and marine-life visit. Yal-Kú is a lagoon attraction reached on land. Compare the complete outing, not just the snorkeling time

Ask each provider what happens when conditions prevent the planned water activity. Compare the cancellation and change terms before paying; one operator’s rules do not apply automatically to another booking.

1) Akumal Bay: a local snorkeling visit

Akumal Bay is known for its seagrass habitat and sea turtles. Choose a local visit if your main interest is snorkeling in the bay itself. Check current access arrangements, permitted areas and conditions with the local operator before you go, especially when traveling with children or inexperienced swimmers.

The Centro Ecológico Akumal snorkeling guidelines explain how to reduce disturbance to turtles and the reef. Give animals space, avoid touching or chasing them, and keep clear of coral and seagrass. Follow current signs and your guide’s instructions rather than assuming every part of the bay is open for swimming.

2) Yal-Kú Lagoon: plan a land visit

Yal-Kú offers lagoon snorkeling near Akumal. Plan it as a separate land visit with its own admission, equipment arrangements and transportation. Check the official Yal-Kú website for current admission options and visitor guidance before setting your schedule.

An H2OH yacht charter does not take guests into Yal-Kú Lagoon. Lagoon admission is not an inclusion in an H2OH charter, and our InHa reef itinerary is a different snorkeling outing. If you would like to do both during your vacation, allow separate travel time and confirm each booking independently.

3) InHa snorkeling on a private yacht

For a private day with your own group, compare our four-hour InHa snorkeling charters. You board at Puerto Aventuras Marina. Share where you are staying in Akumal so the team can help you plan the journey to the marina and confirm any transportation cost separately.

Regular all-inclusive InHa charters include captain, crew, meals, an open bar and snorkeling gear. Family and Custom Series inclusions differ. The captain confirms the route and water activities for conditions on the day; choosing the itinerary does not guarantee a particular wildlife sighting.
